What a time for Portugal to get its first win at the Euro 2016! Cristiano Ronaldo and company barely defeated Croatia in the round of 16, but a 1-0 score was enough to get them to the quarter-finals.
The match between the two squads was overall one of the worst since the start of the competition in France, as neither Portugal nor Croatia were able to get a single shot on goal in the entire 90 minutes. Thus, extra time was needed for the second time on Saturday in order to decide which team will go through.
The first period of extra time did not feature a lot of action again, but the second 15 minutes were more than attractive. The Croatians tried to press their opponents and almost scored with five minutes to go, but Ivan Perisic’s attempt hit the post. However, in the 117th minute, the Portuguese delivered the fatal blow. A shot by Cristiano Ronaldo was saved by Subasic, but Quaresma was able to find the back of the net afterwards. The game finished at 1-0, which means Portugal will be facing Poland in the next phase.
Forget Quaresma tapping it into the empty net, #POR's winner was all about Renato Sanches' speed of thought and dribbling to start the break

Literally the worst of all results. Sitting through all that shite and Portugal win with no shootout. I hate this tournament.

Portugal had no luck at all in group phase. Had some tonight and they're into the last eight. Keep up record of QFs or better every Euro.

Just don't think Croatia really believed in themselves enough. But fair play to Portugal who are more solid than I thought.

That was a stupid football match. A stupid, stupid dull negative game. One shot on target. Portugal strike me as a creepy old team now.

International football rarely does Champions League quality, but it knows how to do drama, and not much touches it for emotion.

Portugal are the only team to have reached the quarterfinals in each of the EUROs since the quarterfinals were introduced in 1996. #EUR2016
